Digitising F2F Training with Renault UK.
With a technical training programme firmly in place, Renault UK had been effectively conducting classroom-based courses on electric vehicles across their training centres. However, the onset of the pandemic and ensuing lockdown demanded a swift alternative. The challenge, was to rapidly transition their face-to-face learning to an online format, ensuring the continuity of their curriculum during those challenging times.
Project Overview.
Benefits
Multi-responsive EV training for different skill levels prior to attending workshop training.
Services
Video Production, elearning, Technical Training, EV/HV, Health & Safety Induction.
Outcomes
Rapid deployment of HV Awareness modules for the continuation of training during the global pandemic.
The Brief.
With three days of face-to-face material spread across two courses Renault UK required a rapid digital solution to continue to offer this training to their dealer networks while users where unable to meet physically in the training room.
“Autonomy brings considerable experience in developing similar online learning solutions within the automotive sector.”
With this in mind, and by working in collaboration with Renault's subject matter experts, we were able to distil and refine the training content, as well as use existing PowerPoints as a basis for the online learning. This would help us to define the structure into which we could design interactive activities and features to make the modules more engaging in their new digital format.
The Solution.
The initial task was to break down the classroom training into manageable segments, ultimately resulting in three individual modules based on different levels of proficiency. Using imagery supplied by Renault UK and bespoke graphical content, we were able to re-imagine the topics within the static documentation and bring them to life.
“Part of the face-to-face training also involved workshop-based procedures which included looking at battery removal and vehicle lockouts to ensure employee safety.”
To replicate this online training, we filmed these sequences during a two-day shoot. With approximately 90 minutes of interactive learning content to build, and a fast-approaching deadline we chose to use Articulate's Rise solution to assemble the modules. Rise is a rapid, responsive web content development tool, allowing developers to create web page-based learning content.
The addition of interactions, audio, and video along with simple quiz questions allows for the modules to have a consistent look and feel regardless of the developer working on each project.
The Result.
Since its launch on Renault UK’s LMS, feedback from users has been extremely positive. For example, one of the modules has almost doubled its numbers in the first three months with users citing the course as ‘refreshing, clear and easy to do’. And now, with more people using the online modules as a prerequisite, this ultimately means more workshop time (in smaller numbers but higher throughput) with attendees turning up better prepared and with a greater knowledge of the subject matter.
